“I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. “

Henry David Thoreau

I want to Hitchhike to South America

Greetings, Friend!

Welcome to my website. I’m Tilo, and I’ve embarked on a project to hitchhike to the Amazon Rainforest, starting from home without any money and earning everything along the way. Along the way I want to learn as much as possible and experience different ways of lving from people all around the world.

How the Idea Emerged

I was your typical socially anxious, lost high school graduate when I decided to embark on a pilgrimage along the Way of St. James. A stroke of fate led to problems with my credit card, leaving me with only 50 € in cash. Forced out of my comfort zone, I had to stretch my budget for food, seek strangers’ kindness for a place to sleep, and even worked on a vineyard in the Campane to complete my journey.
Upon my return, I discovered a profound appreciation for this initially uncomfortable and Spartan lifestyle. I no longer wished to revert to my previous academic life but instead, I found a deep drive within me to explore the world.

My New Journey to South America

Having fulfilled my dream of walking all the way to Spain, I pondered the possibility of hitchhiking to the Amazon. Growing up in a small village in Central Germany, I rarely ventured far due to my family’s responsibilities of carrying for animals back home.
Now, with the experience of walking to Spain under my belt, I ask myself: Could hitchhiking to the Amazon be within my reach? I’m here to discover the answer to that question. Beyond that, my goal is to see the world, learn as much as possible, and experience alternative ways of living beyond the confines of my village, where life seems to be on a predestined path from birth.
